Lecture by Rob Shirkey entitled: “Can a Simple Sticker help us act on Climate Change?” Rob discusses the psychology, economics and law behind his organization’s proposal to have municipalities pass by-laws that would require climate change warning labels on gas pumps. Climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity today, yet we remain largely complacent in the face of this challenge. Our Horizon, a new Canadian climate non-profit, hopes to change that with a simple yet revolutionary campaign to move communities in a more sustainable direction.

Come out for an inspiring presentation by Robert Shirkey, lawyer, WLU alumnus and founder of Our Horizon. His talk will be followed by a discussion moderated by Eric Rumble, Editor-in-Chief at Alternatives Journal. Mr. Shirkey will be discussing the psychology, economics and law behind his proposal to have municipalities pass by-laws that would require climate change warning labels on gas pumps. This unique, low-cost idea addresses the issue of climate change in a globally-unprecedented way. It is a disruptive innovation to shake us out of our sense of complacency and catalyze meaningful action on the greatest challenge of our time.

Mr. Shirkey will be speaking at the world-renowned Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Waterloo, and will answer questions on our by-law which was recently included as an item for further consideration in the Waterloo Region Climate Action Plan.
